Active Duty Tuition Assistance

The Navy's Tuition Assistance program paves way for Active Duty personnel to pursue a course. Tuition costs for courses taken during off-duty at an accredited institution are paid for by this program.

Navy Active Duty personnel have the choice between classroom-based or independent study/distance learning courses provided that such courses are offered in Semester Hours, Quarter Hours, Clock Hours or Continuing Education Units (CEUs) and that the credit earned must be reflected on the institution's transcript.

Tuition and fees charged by the educational institutions are paid upfront by Navy TA during registration. Navy TA pays 100 percent of tuition costs for courses taken to complete a high school diploma or GED. There are, however, limits for other education levels like bachelor's degrees and master's degrees. The limits are outlined below.

• 100% Tuition and Fees, not to exceed:
• $250 @ Semester Credit Hour
• $166 @ Quarter Credit Hour
• 12 Semester Hours @ Fiscal Year

TA Covers: Tuition, Lab Fees, Enrollment Fees, Special Fees, Computer Fees.

Navy Reserve Tuition Assistance

At present, Tuition Assistance programs are not being offered to the Navy Reserve. Nevertheless, if you were activated under Title 10 then you could apply for Active Duty Navy Tuition Assistance.

The official Navy Reserve benefits page for enlisted members says that selected enlisted Naval reservists on Active Duty for 120 consecutive days can claim a reimbursement of up to 100 percent of tuition cost.

On the other hand, the Navy Reserve benefits page for officers announces that selected officers of the Navy Reserve on Active Duty for two or more years can have a reimbursement of up to 100 percent of tuition cost.
