Finance Degree

A finance degree can be defined as an academic degree that is awarded to a student upon completion of a finance-related degree program at an accredited college or university. It differs from an accounting degree in that a finance degree is more narrowly focused. Finance degrees are more focused on money management whereas accounting degrees are geared toward the organization and management of financial information, such as information classification and the management of financial transactions. The curriculum for a finance degree is typically more math intensive due to the detailed analysis, numerical reasoning, and technological skills that are required in most finance careers. Students enrolled in a finance program will receive extensive training and a comprehensive, in-depth, and solid level of financial knowledge crucial to the field of finance.

Types of Finance Degrees

There are several categories of finance degrees from which a student may choose. Students may elect to pursue an associate degree in finance, bachelor degree in finance, master’s degree in finance, or a doctorate degree in finance. It will take a student at least 4 years to earn a bachelor degree in finance. A master’s degree can be earned in 1 to 2 years, while a doctorate degree can take between 4 and 6 years to obtain.
