Why do I want to attend a Brick and Mortar University?
As I am twenty years removed from my last University experience, I decided I wanted to be submerged once again into a school atmosphere.
My son is entering High School, my husband is out on the golf course all morning, and I felt a need to do something. I wanted to do anything to get out of the house. It was time for self-improvement. It was time to learn something new. I always loved being at school. I loved being a student.
However I do not want to do this sitting at home at my computer studying for an online distance learning graduate degree. While that maybe more convenient for some, for me it loses the excitement of sitting in a classroom.
It is such a wonderful experience to sit in a lecture, and to learn from a professor. I listen, I take notes, I can ask questions, and I can take part in discussions. What a fabulous way to spend my time!
I can hardly wait to be accepted to the Huizenga School of Business and Entrepreneurship, and to start upon this new phase in my life. I often wonder where this will lead me to. But there is one thing I know – wherever it takes me I will be face to face with people so I may as well start now.
At times I considered an online graduate program. After all an online degree involved no driving or parking! But none of the conveniences I could think of would offset the excitement of being in a classroom with other students sharing the same experience.
Distance learning is great for some, but not for me. Part two of this essay will be sent in one year from now after I have completed my first year on campus. I will keep you posted as to how my experience is playing out. Part three will happen when I am awarded my degree …. In person and not through my computer.
